I agree whole-heatedly with this assessment and think the similarities are remarkable.
I believe that President Obama and his advisers are being prejudiced and even blinded by their ideology just as President Bush was blinded by his need to bring to an end a problem that had vexed our country and his father for quite some time. As you point out, President Bush was not lying then, nor do I believe is President Obama lying now. He is simply blinded. In both cases we are being told that there is a chance of something disastrous happening if we do nothing so we have to "do something". Unfortunately, the reality is that the risk of doing the wrong thing is much greater than the risk of the so-called disastrous thing occurring. I can see things eventually getting much worse - ironically BECAUSE of this so-called stimulus and the previous bailouts. I can also see President Obama asking for a "troop surge" when the original plan fails to fix the problem and things get much worse. I do think that God is working the pain in Iraq "together for good". Perhaps he will do the same in this situation - or perhaps this past decade has been the beginnings of a nation being humbled by God for his purposes and plans. |
